“I could feel the heat from the melting steel and burning human remains. I could taste the ash of fallen heroes as I inhaled the airborne detritus. Each step I took across the dismantled landscape of Wall Street resulted in a plume of dust that has settled since the attack. What was once the beating heart of New York, of America, is rich with screams. My ears are filled with the cries of men and women as they violently morn the loss of family members and the decimated lives beneath tons of Twin Tower rubble. I flee the scene, but I can not hide from the noise. The pictures disrupt the silence of my thoughts with utter brutality. Who could do this? Why?”
