Returning Back to My Familiar: Punta Gorda, Belize

Returning from a trip with such epic proportions leaves the soul feeling a bit empty and without. Punta Gorda, Belize is a very small town in the southern-most district of Belize; the Teledo District. The town sits on the Bay of Honduras very near the equator and is therefore high in humidity and ambient temperature.

The mission of this trip was to document a small group of missionaries whose aim it was to provide both dental care and nutritional education to the people of Punta Gorda. The experience was one of a lifetime—the pure and simple warmth of the Belizean people is ever-present and forever etched upon my heart and mind.

It is shocking how one expects to serve the people within a land who have so little in comparison to his familiar. Though, upon visiting, one quickly learns that he is the one being served. Their love and joy carries with it an intoxicating power that only the truly hardened could withstand.

Captured here are the images produced during a social documentary adventure within the heart of Punta Gorda that transformed the heart and soul of the photographer forever.
